How Well Do You Know Your Rental Property?

RENTAL PROPERTY TENANTS- IMPORTANT ITEMS TO KNOW

It is important to take the time to know where important items are in your rental property in case of emergency. Since it is easy to forget where these items are, it’s a good idea to refresh your memory.
  • Water Shut Off Valves- Most rental properties in Grand Rapids have the shut off valves below the sink, behind the toilets, and a main shut off in the basement. It is important to know where these are at in case of a leak.
  • Gas, electric, and water meters to check your utility usage.
  • GFI Outlets- These are typically in kitchen and bathrooms. Be sure to check these outlets if your electronics stop working. You will sometimes find these plugs on the outside of your rental property.
  • Gas shut off- This will be very important if there is a gas leak. Many times, there is a gas shut off valve for the stove located behind the stove.
  • Breakers- It is important to know where the breakers are incase power is not working. please check the breakers and GFI’s before we send out our maintenance tech.  In Grand Rapids, the breakers are usually in either in the unit bedroom or basement.
